Closed-Door Training and Introduction of the Chatbot

Goel knew exactly what he wanted to do when he introduced his educational chatbot in the classroom. He didn’t simply release his chatbot and hope for the best.

He trained the bot in secret by asking his students questions and tweaking the bot’s responses. Goel only released the chatbot after it had become more reliable and accurate.

This shows how important it is to train a chatbot in a closed environment. While closed-door training won’t bring your chatbot to perfection, only real interactions can bring it closer to that goal.

What was Jill Watson’s actual impact in this class? This case study doesn’t tell us. I would love to know whether it saved the teacher time or if there was any rating of its accuracy. For now, we’ll just have to accept that this was an awesome case study.

What About Chatbots for Education? Bill Says Yes

It turns out we’re not the only ones excited by the idea of using chatbots to help people learn around the globe.

Bill Gates shared his excitement recently with The Verge. Why is Bill Gates excited? He views chatbots as knowledgeable ‘people’ you can talk to when you’re stuck.

While you can find all the information you need on a website, it’s static and cannot be interacted with. Gates views chatbots as a way to engage with material, ask questions, and express frustration.

Gates said, “You know, one of the reasons I’m willing to take on new subjects is because I have a person I can email if I become completely confused. They’ll help me.”

Although 75% of users haven’t yet interacted with a chatbot, we can imagine how powerful it would be to communicate with an expert ‘person’ on any subject, anywhere in the world, through messaging apps.

This is the future, I believe, of education via  AIchatbots.

What Can Chatbots Do for Education?

Here are a few ideas that Alex would have liked to share.

Save Time

Chatbots are great at saving us time. Automating the tedious allows us to focus on what we do best. This is true for sales, HR, and education. AI chatbot was not built to fool his students. It was designed to save time for him and other TAs by answering basic questions like, “When’s the paper due?”

Your University Pal

Beginners at university may feel overwhelmed and disoriented when first entering. I recall sitting in a large auditorium with 3000 other students, surrounded by unfamiliar buildings on campus, before emerging to face my future with great trepidation.

You could use a AI chatbot to help you. Where is the Student Union? Where is auditorium 25B? What should you do if there’s a leak in your student housing?

Learning 3.0

My teachers at university would always tell us to read more books. These books weren’t part of the curriculum, but they would have been great resources for us.

I think chatbots are a fantastic resource for students. What could you do with an AI-driven chatbot? Easy! You could use it for quizzes on demand about the subject you’re studying. This method provides an effective means of preparing for final exams, receiving feedback on any missed questions, and receiving praise for questions you aced successfully – all without using up teacher’s time!

Conclusion

AI chatbots hold immense promise in education environments. As AI becomes more sophisticated, its applications in learning environments will only increase. From relieving educators of additional workload to creating personalized learning experiences for students, chatbots have the power to transform education. Their success relies on careful implementation and ongoing refinement. However, chatbots promise bright future as long as it’s approached carefully with an eye toward improving everyone’s educational experience.
